Today starts three parties in three days at our house…but first let me tell you about yesterday!

YESTERDAY, I cleaned house like a crazy woman and then headed to my SIL’s house to bake. My mom, my mil, my sil and her kids and a childhood friend of my SIL’s and her kids gathered to bake and decorate. I brought ingredients to make my mom’s orange balls – super simple and yummy! My MIL brought ingredients to make her pumpkin bread. My mom brought some chocolate turtle cookie dough. My SIL had baked sugar cookies for everyone to decorate and had purchased a gingerbread house kit. She also melted various chocolates and some caramel and we dipped pretzels in it! She also had set out meat, cheese and spinach dip for everyone! It was fun and yummy!

TODAY, my family is coming here for Turkey dinner and gift exchange. My mom, my sister her hubby and three kids, my brother, his wife and daughter. There will be 14 of us! I’m looking forward to this!! In fact, I need to get going so I can put the turkey in the oven! 🙂

TOMORROW, after church and before the evening candlelight service for CHRISTmas eve, we are having some family friends over for lunch. Hopefully it will be a quiet afternoon. There will only be 9 of us.

Then, MONDAY, we will have a quiet morning with our kids and maybe my mom. Then midday Eric’s family will be coming over for soup and a gift exchange. I’m going to make clam chowder and possibly Turkey vegetable soup with the leftover turkey from today. And, I’ve got a can of Campbell’s Chicken Noodle for some finicky kids (mine). I think there will be 15 of us as the biggest part of Eric’s brothers’ family won’t be here (his two daughters, oldest son, and his girlfriend).

Ok – I’ve put off getting going long enough and I’m sure you are all bored lol! But it’s given me a chance to gather my thoughts! I can’t believe I forgot the cranberry sauce again!! argh!!

Real-life resolutions are no fun! 😉 So the past couple of years I’ve been writing Knitting Resolutions. Here are mine for 2007:

  1. Complete my Sweater
  2. Start a Knitting Gallery
  3. Take pictures of all my projects and put in Gallery
  4. Knit my first lace project
  5. Knit Stockings for C1, C2, B3 and baby W. to be born in 2007 (all family members)

I think Theresa has asked more than once and it’s not that I’m ignoring you – really, I’m not! It’s just that I won’t let myself play with any lace until now…so I put my notes and new yarn away and only just now am I playing with it!

Ok – first, the class was offered at our new local-ish (Davis is only 7 miles away) yarn store “Knitter’s Playground” (who’s website is really very sad – Go, Trina, Go!! Nag Becca – do whatever you have to do – get something up there! ;). The shop is actually two shops in one – Knitter’s Playground is owned by Becca and Fiber Elements which is owned by Maria.

Maria taught our class. It was a three hour class and it could very easily have been six or nine and I would have soaked it up and asked for more! She’s is soooo knowledgeable! We learned how to cast on for lace…how to read the charts…a general idea of how to create our own lace patterns…oh gosh, I’m not remembering it all. I was in the shop today (buying some yummy wool for the Red Scarf Project) and noticed she is teaching it again in January – and I sort of joked about taking it again…but I’d love the chance to take it again. OH! We talked about blocking too! There were only three of us and I’m so glad because I felt totally comfortable asking my stupid questions!

OK – I’ve got to get back to figuring out gauge and trying to figure out what to knit my mom for her birthday in January!  RE gauge – I’ve already gone up two needles sizes trying to match the gauge for this scarf – thankful for my set of Denise needles so I’ve got more needles to try!

I never write about my weekly Knit Night. I wonder why? Is it because I don’t want you all to know about the fun? Or the deep conversations? Or the projects? Hmm….guess I’m a selfish one! So here’s the real deal!

FUN: Basically we are a happy bunch…a night never goes by without a good laugh or two. Sadly, the humor never translates. I’ll come home and try to tell my DH about something that was SOOO funny at KN…and he never gets the joke! Sad!

Several of us barely escapes our homes where we’ve left crying children and sad-faced hubbies! We are giddy to be out of the house. Alone. Others remember those days and are sympathetic. The young ones listen to our stories and worry. lol

DEEP CONVERSATIONS: Anything from knitting help to birth order to the meaning of life to death and grief to family life to Faith. And everything in between.  We even talk about knitting sometimes! lol
PROJECTS: Just last night there were several scarves, hats, socks, a sweater, bath mitt, Christmas ornaments and a bit of crocheting going on. I might not remember someone’s name…but I always remember what they are knitting! LOL

Anyway, I love this group! I love the diversity. I love the variety of knitting/crocheting levels. I love that everyone is willing to invest themselves in our group and allow us to get to know them! I’m so blessed!
