Appetizer

What are some lyrics you have misheard (such as, instead of “Gettin’ Jiggy With It” you heard “Kick a chicken with it”)?

I heard “If you like Green Enchiladas” instead of “If you like Pina Coladas”  What can I say – I was 12 and never heard of a Pina Colada

What is the worst movie you have ever seen?

I hated “Napeoleon’s Dynamite”  I refused to watch it after about 2 mins.

Which word(s) would you choose to describe your wardrobe?
With apologies to Stacy & Clinton of “What Not To Wear” — Comfortable! 😉

Our pastor has been teaching us out of James for awhile – I truly love that book! It’s so practical. Last Sunday the sermon was out of James 5:7-11 “Be Patient With One Another”. But the last point was “Be Patient With God”. And the Scriptures talked about the endurance of the prophets and Job.

The notes went like this…

B. Example of Job (v 11)

1. He lost everything.

2. He endured (showed great patience)

3. The outcome – The Lord’s compassion and mercy

and my additional notes included Job 42:10 “The Lord restored the fortunes of Job when he prayed for his friends, and the Lord increased all that Job had twofold.” I underlined the two part. I’m not sure what my thinking was – but I identify with some of the things Job dealt with – not all mind you.

Today I got a card in the mail. It was from my secret sister. It was a Get Well Soon card … which sort of cracked me up. But then I read what she wrote inside.

Job 42:10

Dear Amy,

I think God has blessed you even more than Job – Job got a double portion from God; but you have been given a triple portion in your 3 boys – REJOICE!!

2 Samuel 12:20-22

Your pain of losing Joshua is real. But, because of your faith in Jesus you will be with him again – for all eternity! Take comfort!!

Only our Lord Jesus can heal your heart – trust Him to do so.

Love, Your Secret Sister

And, you know – I have thanked the Lord for giving me the boys. Not only did I have to keep going – get dressed every day and try to function – but they are/were so loving to me – drying my tears and giving me reason to laugh again.

But I’ve never considered the truth that He provided the blessing of them BEFORE the trial! Isn’t that like God – He knew what I needed and provided it before I needed it!

Thanks Secret Sister for helping me to see that today!

Yesterday was J2’s first day of school.  I use Homeschool Tracker and have been totally prepared for weeks … lesson plans printed, schedule created and everything!  But there is nothing like actually doing the work to show you what you need to do!

We started with Bible – we are reading the Proverbs along with the Miller Family.   And, then Grammy came over and we did PE.  We stretched out and walked for about 35 minutes…well, J2 rollerbladed.  I admit – this is 80% for me (though J2 does have a bit of a belly – his brothers are slim to skinny) – but J2 seemed to really enjoy it!  Last night he asked me a few times “Is Grammy coming tomorrow?  Are we going to walk again?”  So, I’m thinking he enjoyed it!

When we got back – we took a bit of a break and then started re-reading our Pathway Readers.   I’m glad we are reviewing as J2 really struggled. :(  But what else is to be expected with taking such a long break?  This year we also bought the workbooks that he can do on his own – working on building independence and also giving him more practice with the words.  This time in the readers also showed me that jumping right into the spelling book I bought him was not going to work. So I put it aside and we’ll use the new words in his readers…or ones he struggles with.  I’m glad I haven’t sent our course of study into AVCS yet – I can change it!

The rest of our school work sent great!  Daily Grams 2-3,  Miquon Math and History (self-created) rounded out our morning.  Oh! And, computer time! :)  We found this great program online called Study Dog! Check it out!! All three of my boys enjoy it!

Oh yes – the other thing I realized is that we need handwriting practice again.  So I ordered some cheap D’Nealian workbooks that I love!

All in all – a great day!  He whizzed through his work and only got a bit frustrated at his reading skills.  I pray I can encourage him today!!  Off to get busy!

As seen on Sara’s Blog:
