Micah 6:8 is one of my favorite verses. This version is from “The Message” by Eugene Peterson.

Micah 6:8
But he’s already made it plain how to live, what to do,
what God is looking for in men and women.
It’s quite simple: Do what is fair and just to your neighbor,
be compassionate and loyal in your love,
And don’t take yourself too seriously—
take God seriously.

So, we’ve done two weeks of school for J2 & J3….one week for J1.  So far it’s been more positive than negative and that’s good!  Every little bit helps!

We start our day with Bible – we are viewing videos from Goodseed International “Stranger on the Road to Emmaus” and we are praying together.  A really nice way to start our day.

Then the younger boys start with their handwriting (just a page a day – so it doesn’t involve me too much) and J1 starts his work.  He’s doing pretty well working independently but he can call, email or IM his teacher if he’s stuck and I can’t help him.  Some of his work is answered right on the computer.  Which he seems to really enjoy and Jen (his teacher) can check that night so he gets pretty quick feedback.  So far he’s concentrated on his core subjects (English, Math, PE & Science) and his electives are sort of being ignored.  He’ll see Jen again on Monday morning so we’ll see if he gets in trouble.

I’m finding it hard to be supportive but not mother him too much.  I admit I’ve checked his work a bit, but I have to remind myself that it’s not really my job.  We’ll see how this evolves.

For the other boys, we have been doing the core subects (handwritng, math, spelling, PE & reading) and next week we will add History and Science. History will be the Middle ages with Story of the World.  Science is Zoology I (Flying Creatures) with Apologia’s Elementary Science.

Working at home is making it very hard to balance everything lately.  I am really praying that I find a way to incorporate trips to the gym, working for TOS and a monthly work day at our CSA farm (so I can keep getting the veggies).  Prayers are definitely appreciated!  Maybe I just need to focus on work and homeschool and let everything else go away…but I don’t want to!
