20. What present would you like for your next birthday?

Yesterday J2 turned 12. We sat down a year or so ago and created a plan for birthdays. We have decided there are some years that are milestones and those we will celebrate in a BIG way. Otherwise, we will have quiet birthdays. This was J2’s quiet year.

We started the day pretty normally. Breakfast, chores, and Bible study. Then, with some quick talking, J2 showed me how he could ‘mostly’ take the day off of school and finish it up on Friday – our normally seatwork-free day.

After his brothers finished their seatwork, we jumped in the car and went to Petco. It’s still too early to bring home Tuvok, but we picked out a leash, collar, food/water dish and an engraved id tag. Today we’ll find out if the collar fits, but I’m thinking the id tag might be too big for a bit. They are tiny dogs!

Right next to the pet store is a game store…and J2 had $5 burning a hole in his pocket from G & G Watson. Fortunately there was a HUGE bin of used XBox games. We were in there MUCH longer than I anticipated. So, we had to rush home in time for J1’s history class.

After Daddy came home, Grammy came over with her gift for J2:

The grandkids have been loving this BIG box of gifts from Grammy. Nothing expensive – but TONS of fun!

First, a balloon popped out!

JGirl found the perfect spot for the show!

but not for long!

Then the birthday boy got to choose dinner.  My former mac-n-cheese only boy picked Chinese!  Where not only did he get to have his beloved shrimp but he learned he like wonton soup!

J3 and Grammy

JGirl – who enjoyed lo mein noodles, fried rice and anything else she could get off my plate!  Her baby food is losing appeal as she is learning about all these other wonderful foods out there.  I suspect my life is going to get very messy!

Found this on Ruth’s blog – had to squeeze it in before J2’s birthday! 🙂
