Well, Brett is on morphine, so some things are still pretty unclear – and as you can imagine, he does not want to think about it very much. He was at work…working on a fork lift with a faulty hydraulic hose. He was holding the hose with his right hand and his leg hit a release lever and the lift (?) crushed his wrist. His hand was trapped and I heard that he had to tell the young man who was with him how to operate the fork lift in order to get his hand out. 🙁 They called 911 and his wife and got him to a Redding hospital. In order to save his hand they lifeflighted him to SF.
Maybe when Brett is back home and reading my blog again, he can correct anything I got wrong. 😉
I really appreciate all those who have emailed me that you are praying for him and his family – who got your churches to pray too! I love being part of a much larger family! But more than that – I love having HOPE!
Today my sister, stepmom, dad and I drove to SF to see Brett. Our mom, his wife & daughter and his MIL went earlier today. I’m so glad we went!
His surgery was about 4 hours long and it was a success, I guess. They inserted 6 wires and did alot of artery work. His circulation was good in recovery and he, while in alot of pain, was doing very well. He will be on about 5-10 days of complete bedrest in the hospital and then he can go home and start hand therapy. They will need to go back to the SF hospital every 2 weeks to check with the therapist there and it might be 6 mos before he is ‘recovered’.
He is really blaming himself – which is too bad, because accidents happen! But he believes he should have known better.
Tonight we all came back to Woodland, but my Dad and Stepmom are trying to find an RV park in the SF area. Then his wife and daughter can stay with them…they can help with childcare and Christy can stay closer to Brett.
I’m sure I’m forgetting something – boy, am I tired. I’ll probably sleep good tonight knowing he is doing so much better!
Praising the Lord!!
I talked to my brother!! He was transferred to another SF hospital and we didn’t know where it was – I found a phone number and they transferred me to the ER where a wonderful nurse named Mary told me that they found Brett has blood flowing to his fingers PTL!!!! And, that he will be in surgery at Midnight PST.
Then she said, would you like to talk to him? YES!!!
He sounded drugged up (of course) and he said he was in a lot of pain (again, of course) but he was more worried about all of us. He talked to my mom too and asked her not to worry about him
So the plan now is that Mom and his Wife & Daughter will go to SF very early in the morning and see him after surgery. Later in the morning, my Sister, Dad and Stemom and I will go later in the morning to see him.
There is still alot of unknowns about his outcome – but I’m feeling soooo much better after hearing his voice! Thank you for your prayers!! Please keep it up!
He is on his way from Redding to SF – no idea what hospital. They said it would be a miracle if he can keep his hand. Well, we know who is charge of those!
