I’m feeling very random today. So, here are some thoughts in no particular order….
- Had a great time visiting my brother and family on Sunday. He just graduated – with honors – from Simpson University. We missed the graduation party due to the Pinewood Derby but they graciously welcomed us anyway! Christy made the same “Beef Stew for 50” that I made for J1’s party – and it was soooo good. I have GOT to figure out a way to make it in smaller batches so I can fix it in my smaller pots at home.
- While at my brother’s we watched the last 3 episodes of Lost Season 3. So now they are all caught up and we can talk about it!! Yeah!!
- My sister started posting again. Of course, she’s going to school too and the new session started so now she’s incredibly busy – so that might be it! But we’ll take what we can get. lol
- Thanks to SlickDeals.net (thanks Trina!!) I’ve found a couple of great deals for getting photos developed online. Now I need to find time to scrapbook.
- Yes, I’m scrapbooking digitally but also physically (can’t think of a better way to describe it! LOL) I have waaaay too much invested to quit! I’m going to try and scrapbook at least once a month. Anyone want to join me?!? There’s room for 2 or 3 more people in my dining room!
- Emailed the caseworker on Friday for more info – no response yet. It’s bumming me out.
- Eric said that J3’s teacher wants a conference. I’m worried.
- I started socks for my mom’s birthday at the end of the month. They are so pretty! They’ll look great with a pair of jeans!
- School went great yesterday!! Thank to any and all who have been praying!!

There were tears after last night’s pack meeting. During the pack meeting we made sure that all pinewood derby cars were the right size and weight. We also did some work to the axles to make the cars go as quickly as possible. And, then, the boys were allowed to run their cars as much as possible. Even though the Cub Scout motto is “Do Your Best” it is still hard for kids to understand that everyone can’t be a winner. It’s a hard lesson for them to learn, and yet it is very necessary to learn.
Before we left that night, J2 had a meltdown. His car never won a race all night. We didn’t even realize how much he wanted to win. Unfortunately, if you look back to yesterday’s post to see his car….it was not built for speed. As they worked on building the car, Dad tried to explain aerodynamics to him, but he insisted that this was the shape/design he wanted. So, we tried our best to explain to him that he needed to do his best…not everyone could win…and so on. As his parents, we were really trying to soften the blow that would come when he did not win today. We were sad for him, but we didn’t really know what to say to him to help it be better.
This morning we got there and registered. After registration you are not allowed to touch your car again until the races are over. They raced the Tigers first. J3’s came in third…of three. He was not happy and he cried a bit too. My friend, Trina tried to cheer him up – but he was not interested! But then he got a 3rd place pin!! That was better! And then he got a certificate for “the car most likely to achieve orbit”!
You can still see the tears – but after getting a pin, certificate and a participation ribbon, he’s all smiles again!
J2, however, got first place!!!!

We are just amazed. We don’t know why last night he couldn’t win anything and today he got first place! But we are so happy for him. He sure wanted to win…and we were sure he wouldn’t. He didn’t give up and determined to have a good time…and he ended up winning! Now he can’t say he never wins anything anymore!! 😀

After Christmas I had an urge to finish things. So far all I have left is to block Baby Susannah’s dress (well, and mail it out) and my boxers. I’m making good progress on my boxers…and it feels good to be making progress.
I’m not so in love with the ‘pretty in pink’ scarf I’ve been working on. Maybe it’s that I’m anxious to make some socks. I’m really excited about the Firestarter Socks – have you seen them? Oh my – they are so cool!
I’ve got yarn to make some socks for my Dad and stepmom. And, I want to make my brother a hat – but I want to make a certain one and I don’t have the yarn. So, I’m trying to decide if I want to just knit him anything … nah, I won’t be happy with it. I need to wait until I can get the yarn. Not sure that he reads this – but on the off chance that he does…no more talk about that.
My mom’s birthday is coming too – I’d like to make her something.
I just realized this really a post about nothing! LOLÂ Oh well…it gave me a chance to think some things through! 😉
