As you can imagine, I’ve been singing a lot of lullabies lately. With the boys I usually sang hymns – Trust & Obey was a favorite. But JGirl seems to be a bit different. She seems to prefer these two.

Golden slumbers

By Thomas Dekker

Golden slumber kiss your eyes,
Smiles await you when you rise.
Sleep, pretty baby,
Do not cry,
And I will sing you a lullaby.

Care is heavy, therefore sleep,
While I o’er you watch do keep.
Sleep, pretty darling,
Do not cry,
And I will sing you a lullaby.

And, my favorite Muppet Lullaby – you didn’t know they had one??

I’m Going To Go Back There Someday

This looks familiar, vaguely familiar,
Almost unreal, yet, it’s too soon to feel yet.
Close to my soul, and yet so far away.
I’m going to go back there someday.
Sun rises, night falls, sometimes the sky calls.
Is that a song there, and do I belong there?
I’ve never been there, but I know the way.
I’m going to go back there someday.
Come and go with me, it’s more fun to share,
We’ll both be completely at home in midair.
We’re flyin’, not walkin’, on featherless wings.
We can hold onto love like invisible strings.
There’s not a word yet for old friends who’ve just met.
Part heaven, part space, or have I found my place?
You can just visit, but I plan to stay.
I’m going to go back there someday.
I’m going to go back there someday.

So, what’s your favorite? Or better yet…what’s your children’s favorites?

One Thought on “Lullabies

  1. I almost hate to admit this… but I don’t even know any lullabies. *sigh* … Maybe it’s because my Mom never sang them???

When I sang to the kids (when they were babies), it was never when I was getting them to sleep. I always just quietly rocked them. We sang during the day, for play.

    *sigh* … I’m such a bad mom!
