First, a bit of fun…overheard in our house in last few weeks. During dinner, J3 (7) says “Where do babies come from?”
Freaked out Mommy replied “Ask Daddy!”
Quick thinking Daddy replied “Portland.”
LOL

Now…why am I mad? Well, it seems someone is undermining my husband’s sense of self worth and value. And, I’m outraged! This person can never just listen … they have to zing him at every opportunity. The latest one was that he should get another job because “you don’t even work all year around.” ARGH!! Does this person remember how long it took Eric to find this job? This job that pays him year around – maybe not the highest salary, but the benefits more than make up for that! Benefits like:
- Well, the obvious – Insurance
- Great people to work with
- A Godly institution that he can be proud of representing
- Timeshare opportunities during vacations
- Gifts throughout the year – not just from the kids who call him Mr. Funstein and can’t wait to get it in his class but also each teacher has a secret gifter who prays for them and sends them notes of encouragement!
- 2 weeks off at Christmas
- 3 weeks off each Spring
- 6-8 weeks off each Summer (I forget and I am not going to look it up)
And, personally I think just having all that time off with our family is HUGE! Every kid wants their parents time and approval and we are blessed to have that time to work on giving that approval! To show them we want to be with them!
I was hoping writing this out would help me get rid of my anger. But it hasn’t. Guess I better start praying for this person!

Sounds like a perfect job to me!!! Just ignore said person… They don’t know what they are talking about!!! I am sure that Eric loves all the extra time off he gets with you and the kids, and the kids are benefiting from it so much!
As for the convo… SO FUNNY!!!! *rofl*
Wait… J3 is SEVEN??? … When did that happen? *lol*
Portland! That’s hysterical!
Regarding the other: you don’t even work year round? OMG! Sounds like someone to just tune out. Your DH’s job sounds awesome. Teachers may only work 9 months out of the year, but as a new teacher, I know *I* work a *lot* more hours than I’m actually in the classroom getting paid for, and I’m pretty sure that’s the norm. We just pack 12 months worth of work into 9 months. 😉
Can’t answer here, but have much to say on this!!! Will, grrrr do for now?
As the child of a dad who is a seasonal worker, it certainly has it disadvantages and advantages. I enjoyed spending more time with Dad in the winter and with Mom in the summer. 🙂
Obviously this person doesn’t know how much work it is to be a teacher! My Grandma always said, “Consider the source”…in other words, if this person has “issues”, don’t put a lot of value on what they say. Hey, any dude that come up with “Portland” without skipping a beat…that’s the kind of man that can think on his feet! :o) We love you Eric! Way to go Amy for sticking up for your hubby!
So this person is saying people aren’t supposed to be teachers?! Where would this world be without teachers! You know it’s just too stupid to even be mad about…someone who would say something like that isn’t worth the energy of getting mad!
All families are different- different players, different dynamics. Hubby’s job works for him and works for you. I don’t see that it’s anyone else’s business. I’d commit them to prayer, and try to put it out of your mind. When I have trouble stopping myself from being angry, I sing to the Lord. It corrects my spirit and turns me from fuming to an attitude of worship.
