Remember high school? Yeah, I hated it too. I never understood why I cared so much about what some people thought! I wish I had the strength then that I have now.

Now, I do what I want…when I want and I let others’ opinions (mostly) roll off my back.

So, why have I been struggling to knit a Clapotis or Jaywalkers? Don’t get my wrong – I do love them. And, since they are so easy I can see why they are popular. But as I frogged both items this weekend – not at the same time, that would have been traumatic! – I sort of felt relieved. I realized that I was knitting them because I felt I had too. I was wanting to fit in again! I didn’t want to finally get to join Ravelry and be the only kid wearing the Sears brand in stead of Levis! I mean, look! Right on the front page – Jaywalkers!!

I decided that I’m going to be the adult that I am – and resist the temptation to knit things just so I can be part of the crowd. However, if I don’t get into Ravelry soon I am going to die!!! My life will be incomplete!!! I’ll never get happy again!!! (smack!) Ok – I’m better now. I promise to act my age! šŸ˜‰ Well, maybe not MY age but older than high school!

So, what am I knitting now??

See, I never did update my progess bars.

5 Thoughts on “Out with the In Crowd

  1. I really love the Anastasia socks, too, and considered them for my Sockapalooza pal.
I never knew you knit stuff because other did! I wonder if that is common….

  2. Dude! –that’s an expletive from when I was in high school– šŸ™‚ I’m SO glad I’m not the only one who just can’t get into those patterns that “everyone” else is doing! I frogged my Monkey socks (a Knitty pattern by Cookie A.) a few weeks ago. Guess I was trying to be like the popular kids (or knit the popular kids?) and it’s just not me! šŸ™‚ Still, I am very tempted to knit a pair of Jaywalkers, especially since in the latest Lime and Violet they were saying something like unless you lived under a rock, you’d made a pair. Oh well!

  3. You can join my “Hatin’ on the Clapotis” club. It will be exclusive, lol. I’ve only made one pair of Jaywalkers, and I do believe they were the first socks that I ever knit. I only liked it because I was so damn proud that I was making a sock!
I still haven’t made lace (aside from socks with lace). I need to just do it!

  4. I frogged two different patterns of Jaywalkers. They’re only designed for tiny narrow feet. I was making them for a friend in an exchange and she had normal feet and they were still so small, they never would have fit me, that’s for sure, even with the “make them bigger” instructions. It’s a pretty pattern, but a pain! The new pattern will look nice in the LL. I really like the LL Shepherd Sport for socks. It’s not that much heavier but has a nicer feel. I’ll try to answer your email soon. Crazy week!

  5. I really love the Anastasia socks, I might have to do those next.
I just finished a pair of Jaywalkers last month. I love that pattern too.
    Joy
