100 Things About Me…

100 Things About Me: **Updated 11/14/2008**

  1. I was born in 1966.
  2. I’m the oldest of 3 children.
  3. My middle name is Rae….it’s grown on me.
  4. My maiden name was “Watson”.  I’ve heard the “Elementary, my dear Watson” phrase TOO many times to mention!
  5. My married name is “Osborn”.  And NO, we are not related to Ozzy Osbourne – it’s not even spelled the same way!
  6. My parents divorced when I was 5.
  7. For a long time, I didn’t know anyone else who’s family was broken.
  8. And, then it seemed like no one’s family was still together.
  9. I loved purple as a child.
  10. I still love purple.
  11. I am a Christian.
  12. That doesn’t mean I’m perfect, just forgiven.
  13. The first book I remember reading was Nancy Drew.
  14. The last book I read (6/2006) was “BFG” by Roald Dahl.
  15. I knit.
  16. I quilt.
  17. I used to crochet.
  18. I used to cross-stitch.
  19. I have a phobia about sewing – thanks to a Jr high teacher. 🙁
  20. My (future) DH took me out on my twentieth birthday.
  21. We were engaged 2.5 mos later.
  22. We’ve been married for 21 years. (2008)
  23. My first job was at Baskin & Robbins.
  24. I worked as a candle-maker for awhile.
  25. I cleaned a Dr’s house.
  26. I worked fast food.
  27. I was a receptionist for several years.
  28. Most recently I worked in a Community College library.
  29. Now, I’m a WAHM.
  30. I homeschool my 3 sons
  31. But I also work for a homeschooling magazine.
  32. I have Sleep Apnea.
  33. I have PCOS.
  34. Due to that we did not have children for many years of our marriage.
  35. We looked into fertility treatment but realized very quickly that we were uncomfortable with the decisions we’d have to make.
  36. We looked into foster parenting and adoption via the state we lived in.
  37. We started the adoption process in the Spring of 1995.
  38. Our first son was born in January 1995.
  39. But he didn’t join our family until May of 1996.
  40. Then our next son was born in Sept 1996. Surprise!
  41. He joined our family in December of 1996.
  42. We had two sons in less than 8 mos!
  43. We talked about adopting again, but didn’t do anything about it.
  44. On our oldest son’s 6th birthday we got a phone call that they had a brother!
  45. He joined our family in May of 2001.
  46. I got very sick in Oct of 2001. I thought I had ovarian cancer.
  47. I was pregnant!
  48. It was a very difficult pregnancy.
  49. But a very easy delivery.
  50. My DH resigned his ministry position one week after Joshua was born.
  51. We moved back home in August 2002.
  52. Joshua died on February 22, 2003.
  53. He was 8.5 mos old.
  54. He’d just started to say “Momma”.
  55. I still cry when I see his picture.
  56. I’ve had doctors and the coroner tell us we did nothing wrong, but I still feel guilty.  I think I always will.
  57. My sister is Elizabeth – we all call her Beth.
  58. Unless she’s a stinker and then she’s lizardbreath! lol
  59. I’m probably in trouble now!
  60. My brother is Brett – most of us still call him Brettsy.
  61. When he was a kid – we called him “Brett the Brat”.
  62. Yes, we were mean big sisters.
  63. I’m 42 (2008)
  64. Two years after we got married, we moved to Portland, OR.
  65. Dh attended Western Seminary up there.
  66. DH pastored a church in The Dalles, OR.
  67. And, a church in Reedsport, OR.
  68. He now doesn’t believe he has the right temperament/gifts to be a pastor.
  69. But he still loves to preach and teach.
  70. He is the funniest man I know.
  71. We are total opposites.
  72. He likes to be in a crowd…I like to stay home.
  73. He likes to talk…I like to be quiet.
  74. But we are a pretty good team.
  75. I’ve now been married to him longer than I was single! How did that happen??
  76. I think that’s something to be proud of!
  77. I wear emerald earrings everyday as a tribute to Joshua.
  78. But I want to get a tattoo.
  79. Or maybe I just want to talk about getting a tattoo.
  80. I love Christ…but I really struggle with the American church.
  81. I hate to cook.
  82. I think the world needs more love, less anger.
  83. I would describe myself as conservative.
  84. I do crossword puzzles.
  85. I love to work Logic puzzles.
  86. And Sudoku!
  87. All my grandparents are dead.
  88. We are blessed to live in the same town as my mom and inlaws.
  89. I’ve been collecting teacups for 18 years.
  90. My Grandma gave me a new one every Christmas for years.
  91. But I’ve only recently started to drink tea.
  92. September 2007 we learned that our boys had a new sibling…a girl!
  93. She joined our family at 6 mos old.
  94. When we named her we decided to break the J name cycle….but I still call her JGirl on the blog.
  95. I’m enjoying dressing her in pink and purple.
  96. We bought our first home in August 2008.
  97. It’s not a mansion, in fact it is pretty modest, but we are thrilled to be home owners.
  98. I was excited to finally be able to paint a red dining room
  99. and a purple bedroom! 🙂
  100. I look forward to Heaven.

Yeah!! I did it!! 🙂

    Amy – haven’t been here in ages – maybe more than a year, I don’t know. Love the list – not sure I could do it! Just wanted to touch base and tell you I miss you and pray for you! –oh, and btw… we finally moved! Out near my in-laws. It is nice being near family again! Dh is between churches – teaching at the prison and pulpit supply frequently.

    I loved reading your 100 things about you!!! It gave me a thumbnail sketch to semi-catch up with you. We are in Bakersfield, CA and have been for the last 8 years! Galen and I are frequently in the SAC area–we should get together sometime. He has meetings and conferences up around that area and other business and I go up with him. Ministry and business take us up there quite often! I would love to get together–and have some tea. :>)
    We have thought of you and Eric often, wonder how and where you were. Never knew about the growth of you family–what adorable pictures of your boys, and such a precious picture of your little one that I firmly believe is with our Lord! My heart hurts for you and will keep you in my prayers.
    I am unclear as to what you may be facing in court–but nevertheless, I will be praying for you.
    I would love to catch up more–and I will write more later! Give our love to Eric. I still have pics of the day he and Galen graduated from Western–they were standing side by side. The Western journey has been interesting to say the least for us. That is a whole other story for another time!

    I linked over from Perri’s blog and see that we have much in common. Oldest child; love Nancy Drew, crossword & logic problems; our work experience is similar, and we homeschooled our kids for a while. We lost our son to a viral infection at 2 wks old. I’ll bookmark you 🙂

    Great list. I’m so sorry for the loss of your son. We have a few things in common : my parents divorced when I was 7, I lost a baby girl at birth, I’m still struggling with infertility, I also enjoy knitting, needle pointing and crossword puzzle solving.

    What a neat way to get to know you. It’s so cool you’ve adopted siblings. My youngest two siblings are adopted and share the same birth mom. That’s a great connection. After seeing so many families broken up in the foster system, it’s wonderful to know that there other people like you who help keep families together.

I was so moved with compassion at the early departure of your dear Joshua but blessed by your expression of faith in where he is and that you’ll see him again! I am a pastor’s wife who home-schooled our 3 children and who is taking up knitting in my spare time—whatever that is! LOL You are a lovely person and I enjoyed meeting you.
