Several of my knitting friends and I are doing a 12 month “First Saturday Sampler” quilt. Each month we are given a kit for a quilt block. As long as we finish by the next month, we get the next block free – otherwise we pay a fee. Today I finally got mine done! 🙂

Also, today I had wonderful success at a local used baby store! I found 4 diaper wraps, a couple of outfits (nothing like a mother-in-law to encourage you!! LOL) but even more exciting – I got THE car seat I had hoped to find for less than 1/2 the original cost AND THE high chair we wanted! No photos of the car seat – the owner hadn’t had time to clean it yet but here is the high chair.

The nice thing about this chair – other than it is portable and fits on our kitchen chairs – is that it reclines in a bunch of different angles (this is fully reclined)!

Today, Ruth, Trina, Robin and I went to a neighboring small town and hit their First Saturday Series (quilting). We arrived just minutes before it started. As we walked in to the Quilt Shop we were handed tickets and we hurried upstairs. Trina had told us that this was a well attended event, but it was still amazing to hear the buzz as we approached the room. I have no idea how big the crowd was, but there were people standing up in the back (including us).

They showed quilts that people had made and reviewed their upcoming classes. Man, this was good marketing! I feel in love with so many of the designs and colors! Then they did a drawing with our tickets – and I was one of the winners! I won a Quilt calendar (that Trina is going to give to her mom – hope she enjoys it!!) and a quilt pattern! 🙂 And, it is a neat one!

After it was all over, anyone who pre-registered (Trina) got their square instructions and fabric and the rest of us were able to register. Robin, Trina and I are going to do the Log Cabin Sampler which is in Red & Pink fabrics – mine will be for JGirl Lord willing! Ruth chose to do the “View from Your Window” that is described as “a variety of traditional and novelty pieced blocks …. made in bright colors on a light blue background”. Should be fun to see pictures as we go through the year.

Afterward, the quilting shop was crazy-busy and Miss E needed to eat. Ruth had to attend another event so she had to leave us then. Robin, Trina and I went to a coffee shop and had a bit of a snack, looked at Trina’s kit and talked, of course! We all had our knitting -but somehow none of us knit a stitch! I’m not exactly sure how that happened now that I think about it! LOL

Then we headed to my mom’s house to look at some hand-me-downs for some little boys (though I did grab some stripped Osh Kosh overalls for JGirl! – should be cute with a little red tshirt under it someday :). Mom also made lunch for us! How fun was that!! She made the yummiest sandwiches and fruit salad with pineapple – my fav!!

It was a great break from the norm! And, I’m so jazzed that I’m going to get to do this each month!! 🙂 I love having some friends who enjoy what I enjoy!! I’m so blessed!

It seems everywhere I turn I’m hearing about quilting! As in….

  • Trina (sadly blogless) told me about this First Saturday group at the Cloth Carousel in Winters.
  • Theresa continues to quilt!! Go Theresa!
  • J3 asks when I’m going to finish his quilt! The top has been done since Nov 2004!! That’s 3 years!! Poor guy!
  • Various other people are starting it or restarting! In fact, someone keeps coming to my blog via the search term “quilting again” – I hope they find what they are looking for!
  • And I want to start again too!

I’m pretty excited about this First Saturday group (sadly, no blog or website). I guess if you complete your monthly block you get the next pattern for no charge. I love the idea! Just the motivation I need to get back into it. (Trying not to think of all the things that might keep me from completing it. No need to dwell on the negative!)

Here’s some pictures of my first quilt:

Sadly, I don’t have one of the finished quilt top… but I think Theresa might. I’ll have to email her to see if she’ll send me a copy. Or I guess I could go find it and take a new picture. But that room is so cold!! LOL

I’ve been knitting quite a bit, but now I’m quilting again! Theresa and I started our quilting class this week! The class is more of a philosophy class so far rather than task oriented. The teacher blew me away with her knowledge! Turns out she teaches in Davis too, so I might take another look at their classes.

Today, Saturday, I finally had a chance to consider our homework and realized I didn’t know what I was supposed to do! LOL So, I’m going to just do a wall hanging or a block or two (we’ll see what I actually have time for!) and see what happens.

I went to Walmart today and bought some cheap fabric. I bought two florals, a white with a soft pattern, a soft lilac and a dark burgundy print. Surprisingly, they all go with each other but it’s more a mix and match thing rather than all five together. Maybe I’ll take a picture of them tomorrow.

Well, tomorrow is our first Bible Study (Beth Moore’s “Breaking Free”) so I’d better get offline and get prepared! I’ll post pics as soon as I start sewing!

OH!! Before I forget…I finally found out who made my Kenmore machine! Turns out it is a Necchi Logica – a great machine at the time. Sometimes I think I should invest in a new machine, but this one does everything I need…well, it will once I get the manual I purchased and the walking foot that I’ll be buying this week!
