We have been preapproved to buy a home.  Great news – if we lived somewhere in the middle of the country we’d be able to find a great starter home.  Out here…not so great.  It’s ok – I choose to live here.  I want to live here.  I don’t want to leave….thus the home buying.

But it’s so depressing to look at these homes.  They need so much work….have such small spaces….small yards…meh neighborhoods.  It’s hard to see the potential.  It’s hard to imagine how we can clean it up and make it nice.  I know we can….we’ve lived in some scary places before.  But that was before kids….when we were younger and had more energy.

Ok…no more whining….who’s got time anyway! LOL  Just PLEASE pray for us….this is a huge decision and we are frankly scared witless!

  1. I hear you! When we were looking for a house in the Portland area in ’06, it was SO DISCOURAGING… Which is why we ended up getting a mf home (on our own lot), as it was the only way we could afford a big enough house. *sigh*

Well, you know what my advice would be! 🙂 But, #1) put your family’s quality of life first. You live in a great neighborhood!

  3. It is exciting that you got approved. What about lots for manufactured homes? We looked at a Skyway home made you know where yesterday. It was awesome and honestly made better than some of the new building we have seen in the affluent areas near here. The space is planned out really well. If we had a lot right now and a down payment we would have bought one yesterday they had on sale as a lot model because it was perfect for our family, including a separated dining room (rare, usually open plan/connected) that would have worked perfectly for a school room! We love your area but noticed how high prices were, higher than the city here. :o( Keep us posted on your adventure!
