We had an opportunity to take possession of a very old pop-up tent trailer.  We got it tonight and opened it up – and it’s horribly moldy.  We’ve got TONS of work before us – but I can’t help but get excited about it!

We’ve tucked away some money to clean it up and it will be a great family project.  Maybe next summer we can take the big vacation we have been dreaming about for years.  Heading east and visiting all the friends and family we have all over this country!  It would be so exciting to do that with our children!

I’ll try to take some before pictures tomorrow am.  Does anyone know of a good way to get rid of mold/mildew??

Amy- this is Perri’s daughter Andi. I recently had a HORRIBLE mold probem in the bathroom (it was underneath the floors on the sub floor from a leak we didn’t know about. Ugh) We used a mix of bleach and water, like 3 parts bleach, 1 part water, and in really tough spots just straight bleach. Just in a spray bottle, spray, sit, wipe, done. If the mold is on vinyl I don’t think it should discolor it any, but you may want to test it in a smallish spot first.

That looks like it should be great once it’s cleaned up. i think the bleach will work too. what’s the worst it’s gonna do? Bleach the fabric maybe. I did a search adn found this:
    Canvas Mold and Mildew Removal
To remove mold and mildew from your canvas tent, or awning, first vacuum or brush soilded areas to remove any excess dirt. Wash the affected area with a solution of 1/2 cup Lysol to a gallon of hot water. Rinse with a solution of 1 cup lemon juice and 1 cup salt to a gallon of hot water. Allow the canvas to air dry in the sun.

You can also try applying a cleaner such as IOSSO Tent & Camping Gear Cleaner. This cleaner is made to remove tough dirt and mildew stains. Afterwards, you may want to treat the canvas with a water-repellent compound such as Canvak.

I would try calling a boat dealer. They probably have a cleaner for canvas mold because of boat covers and such. Probably an RV place might too
