Lots of random thoughts …

… Homeschooling …
J2 will finish 3rd grade on June 15 and start 4th grade 1 week later! LOL Poor kid! Actually he probably won’t even notice! I’m going to do 3 to 4 weeks of school and then a break so we are pretty much going to a year-round schedule but some longer breaks as needed to match everyone else’s schedule.
Here is what we are planning for curriculum:
Bible – well, I still don’t have a plan – anyone have an idea?
Math – Saxon 54
Science – Apologia ‘Exploring Creation with Astronomy’
Social Studies – Beautiful Feet’s California History
Language Arts

  • Spelling – AVKO Sequential Spelling
  • Phonics Pathways
  • Narration & Story Writing
  • Appletree

That’s all I’ve got planned so far.

… May 29 …
May 29 would have been Joshua’s 5th birthday. 🙁 We are supposed to be going to the Cabin this weekend – but I don’t want to go.

… Knitting …

  • working on the Clapotis – it’s a great mix of mindless & mindful knitting.
  • Found this today – Sci Fi KAL – can’t wait try try out the patterns!

This is perfect. I was going to tag you for the “8 random things” meme anyway. You’re it!
BTW, try your best to enjoy the weekend. Celebrate Joshie’s life, it was short, but special.

  2. I’m doing Saxon 5/4 with Ben this coming year too. We used Saxon for the first time this year and I love it. Beth is doing much better in math with this program. She’ll be in 8/7 this coming year. We sitll have about 4 more weeks of school to go. We’re finished with spelling, and almost finished with history. As for Bible, I don’t use a curriculum. We have a program at church where they have lots of memory verses, so they work on that each day and then read a chapter in the Bible. We’re also, as a family, doing Children’s “Prove It” Catechism. Example: Q. Who made you? A. God Prove it! Gen. 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. We’re doing it at a leisurely pace and the kids love it.

It’s hard to believe that Josh would have been 5 years old. I pray that you will be able to enjoy your weekend remembering what a wonderful blessing he was to your life!

I wish I lived near you so I could get you to teach me to knit! My daughter is in the process of learning to knit from a friend of hers. Maybe she’ll be able to teach me one day!

  3. It doesn’t seem like five years since Joshua was born. Go enjoy your family on this day – do something fun in his memory.

    Love the wedding picture.
