Tonight we had The Pioneer Woman‘s Cauliflower Soup and it was YUMMMMMMMY!!

Along with it we had the whole wheat bread that Christy and I made yesterday.  That was fun and her recipe was much easier than the way I was taught to make bread.

Here are a few pictures from our day:

(You can click on them to make them bigger)

We also made Sour Dough Biscuits (the hearts) – which was a recipe from my Momma’s Momma.  Here is the recipe – it couldn’t be simpler and it was so much better than bisquick biscuits!

Sour Dough Biscuits

  • 1 pkg yeast (2 1/4 tsp)
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 cup buttermilk (or 2 cups milk & 2 tbsp vinegar)
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 4 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 8 cups flour

Dissolve yeast in water.  Then add all the ingredients, mix together, roll out to about 1″ after kneading slightly.

Bake at 400 degrees for 15 min or so.

I’m waiting for my SIL’s go-ahead before I post her bread recipe.  🙂

Ok – this might be unsettling for a few readers – but I have a dilemma.  We are six people living in a house with one bathroom.  We actually make this work…but just about every day I have a problem.

I’m brushing my teeth and midway I wonder….is my brush the purple one with pink bristles or is it the red one with pink bristles?? AM I USING THE WRONG BRUSH?!?!

I try to keep everyone using the same color but getting the same brush/bristle combination doesn’t always work.

Short of buying Eric and I a really nice system like the Sonicare system and letting the kids worry about their own colors (but you know I’ll still wonder!?!)…how do others handle this situation?

Sorry “getting another bathroom” or “get a bigger house” are not helpful solutions! ;-)  Any other suggestions are VERY appreciated! 😀

We are back to our routines – yeah!!

But I’ve added a few new things to our lives – Mondays are Meatless Mondays.  I’ve been wanting to add more vegetarian dishes to our menu, but this way will help me do it at least once a week.  Tonight I’m making a vegetarian lasagna and a big green salad.

Another new thing I’m trying it to digital scrapbook as we go this year. I’m pretty good about getting the photos off my camera and onto the computer right away but then they sit there unless I blog them, so now I’m going to scrapbook them as soon as possible.  I did our New Years Eve and J1’s birthday last night.  It was fun.  Sorry, I can’t figure out how to share them here so you will have to be my Facebook friend to see them.

Are you starting anything new this year?

OK – Time to start our homeschool day – light day today to help us get back into the swing of it – and taking down the tree today!

PS I updated my Getting Healthy page today too – ugh!

Week One: January 3rd-9th
“Tea as a mood lifter: How does tea improve your day? What is your favorite time for a nice, hot cuppa?”

I like the act of making tea almost as much as sipping it.  Choosing my tea as the water warms…choosing a cup…waiting 3 or 4 minutes for it to steep…finding a quiet place to sit…even sipping it as it’s just a bit too hot.  All that means that I’ve slowed down a bit.  Anytime I can slow down and breath really helps my day.

I generally have tea in the evening with my Hubby.  It warms us up and helps us end our day quietly and peacefully.

(sorry – I can’t figure out how to add the Mister linky to this post – so until I do – go here to find the other responses to this first question.)

Like most people, I normally spend New Year’s day reflecting on the last year and making some goals for the new year.  But this year I was worried about Sissy and then when she was doing better I was happy to help Eric with his goals.  So, while today is J1’s birthday – and I’ll be baking a chocolate cake and adding two extra teenagers to our home to hang out and play the Wii – I will also try to come up with a few goals for 2010!   But right now, I have nothing.  Nada.  Zilch.

I’m not normally like this!  I’m very goal-oriented.  This is weird for me!  Have you set any goals for the new year that I can read to inspire me?
