TerrificTuesday

I don’t know anyone who is watching the videos of the aftermath of the tornadoes and not holding their families a bit closer today.  Lord, please be with the families who have lost loved ones, or a home or both.  Father, be with them today and let them feel your comfort and love. Give those who can go there and help extra strength and bless them.  Help those of us who can’t go there to find ways to make a difference – maybe it’s to give to the Red Cross or some other chartity that is probably already there making a difference!

Once again I am writing a Terrific Tuesday post after a tragedy.  And, once again, I am determined to keep doing it.  Terrific Tuesday is a weekly chance to share what you is making you smile.  Maybe it’s a person…a product…an ideal.  Whatever it is, it is a chance to be a smile on the internet!  We have enough sadness, let’s post some blessings! To participate, all you need to do is write a post on your blog, come back here and link up your post so others can see what you think is Terrific on Tuesday! 😀  And, please tell your friends so they can join us!

I’ve been saving a few things – little things that have made me smile!

First, not so little, we are done with homeschooling until August! Woot!  Here is J2 at our celebratory lunch!

endofyearcelebrationTrust me, he is happy, but he is a teenager! 😉

I also found a couple of products that I love!  First, my son, J3 found this one:

blush

It is a Glade Refill in their Blush collection called “Pink Diamond”.  It is so nice that (since he is gone to Science Camp) I have ‘borrowed’ it to put in my office! Yummy! Makes me wonder if it’s a perfume I can buy (I’m so NOT a fashionista!).  The label tells me the scent is Plumeria and Sweet Honeysuckle.  LOVE IT!

And, when I was shopping with my sister, we saw this nail polish (you can tell I took this picture as it’s oh so slightly fuzzy – sorry about that!) called Fuzzy Coat from Sally Hansen.

fuzzycoatnailAs you can see from the pictures, it is a nail polish with textures in it. But what makes it so fun is that the names are all knitting related.  The one above is all All Yarned Up and others in the series are Tweedy, Wool Knot, Wool Lite and more! Check it out!

So, what about you?  Don’t make this too hard. You can write a book about your blessings or just share a photo or a quick note about what made you smile this week. No rules! ok…one rule. Please link to the actual post and not just to your blog.

If you have ANY questions about any of this – please don’t hesitate to contact me!

Hope you smile today!!

I just took J3 out to lunch for our semi-annual End-of-school year celebration. He spent most of the time telling me about a book he wants to write this summer with his friends. It will be an expanded version of a D&D game they played.

Then after we returned home, he called his friends and there was talk of back stories and additional characters. I am so impressed!

You might not be impressed, but do you know that this kid reads at maybe a 2nd grade level and writes at maybe a first grade level? He isn’t going to let that stop him from having the life he wants to lead. He was telling me about technology which will take his spoken words and put it into text. And he has great friends who accept him as he is and enjoy being with him!

A few years ago he tried to kill himself, because he was so frustrated with his limitations and now he is telling me how he isn’t going to let his disability keep him from doing what he wants to do! I am am so proud of him!

Linking up with Miranda’s Random 5 on Friday – let me know if you join too!

  1. It is official – well, something has to be filed, but for ME it is official – that Sissy will repeat Kindergarten with her current teacher.  She is getting speech therapy, small group teaching with the RSP and even being seen weekly by the school psychologist to help with her anxiety.
  2. I can hear you Homeschool moms screaming at me to bring this baby home.  But my Hubs and I agreed that I need a bit of a break right now. When our oldest special learner graduates (Lord willing only 2 more years left) then I will bring her home.  Until then, I am completely at peace with what we are doing with her.
  3. I have completed all my preliminary lesson plans for my 11th grader and just starting to look at online curriculum options for my 7th grader (next year). Anyone had experience with OdysseyWare or Study Island as a homeschooler?
  4. I bought cherries last night and seriously considering NOT sharing them with the kids!  Do you think I’m a horrible mom now?
  5. Tomorrow I think I’m headed with my Sister to Sacramento/Folsom to do some clothes shopping. Hate shopping, but I love spending time with my Sister!

Wow – I didn’t post a single thing yesterday.  Well, I would have, but I removed my Twitter stream from my blog (you can see it in the sidebar – or at the bottom of the page if you are view this on a mobile device – and I’m still active there) in attempts to make myself do a real blog post – something more than 140 characters.  But there are days where more than 140 characters at one time is just too much for me.  Yesterday had highs and lows and fun and tears.

One new thing in our life, my in-laws will be coming over twice a week to eat a meal with us – the family is hoping to relieve some of their stress regarding preparation/clean-up and I make a big meal every.single.day for my family so why not?  I hope it is enough to help.

The Bible study is going and starting my day in the Word/Journal/Prayer really helps me be intentional all day.  Learning some new things about myself and God too!

In the homeschool department, J2 and I have 7 more days of school in front of us – summeritis is hitting us hard!  But we are persevering to finish what we intended to do.  Yeah for us!

For the kiddos who are going to public school, we are waiting to hear the results of Sissy’s testing to determine what next year will be like.  Hoping for a modified K/1 opportunity for her.  J3 is so ready to be done with p.s.  Hubs talked to the principal about the bullying we are seeing and assures us that one more ‘incident’ and a certain kid will be gone. I am praying that incident won’t involve my kid.  J3 is definitely more on the homeschool band wagon that ever before!

OH! Another thing I am trying to incorporate in my life (more of that intentional stuff) is to add Scripture memorization.  I posted a picture on instagram yesterday of my current verse (let’s see if this works)

6f0c4f3ab7f011e29e1622000a9d0ec7_7If you can’t read that (I need new dry erase markers) it is Proverbs 16:3 “Commit it to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.”  Trying to memorize it, trying to live it!

What about you? Memorizing anything?  Being intentional? What does that look like in your life?

Trying something new today!  My friend and coworker, April, posted this and I thought I’d try it too!

  1. Crocs might be the ugliest shoe in the world, but if I keep wearing my Crocs, I have ZERO plantar fasciitis pain! Worth it!!
  2. Somebody wanted to be a princess yesterday – I think she nailed it! ;- ) Yes, that’s her slip!  princessRight down to her shoes! shoes
  3. I am feeling guilty because it is very apparent that J3 needs to not be in the public school system anymore.  The guilt is because I was really starting to enjoy the freedom and quiet.  I am working hard to adjust my attitude. I’m always saying that there are Seasons in my life, I think I was pushing myself into a Season that my children aren’t ready for! I want what is best for my kids, not what is easiest for me!
  4. Today my Hubs only has a 1/2 day and then is off for 3 weeks!! yeah!! and OH NO!! 😉  Those of you with wah Hubs might understand!  Seriously, I am looking forward to morning coffee on the back patio and some walks in the afternoon.  Should be nice!
  5. Tonight’s dinner is soup and grilled cheese – does anyone else totally run out of steam sometime on Friday afternoon?  It’s like all the weariness of the week descends upon me.  I am learning to just adjust my expectations of the day and go with it.  But it’s weird, right?

Ok, that’s it!  I’ve got to get my homeschooler going on schoolwork and get a shower before our speech therapist arrives at 10am!  Hoping to do another Virtual Knit Night Afternoon today!! 😀  Have a great Friday!!
